18. Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain

Mercedes-Benz has launched the E-Class All Terrain in India, priced at Rs 75 lakh, ex-showroom India. Based on the non-stretched wheelbase chassis of the E-Class sedan, the All Terrain combines the luxury of the sedan with surprisingly good off-road ability. The E-Class All-Terrain won’t be a unique offering in the country, the Volvo V90 Cross Country was here first, but that does not make it any less unique.
Mercedes-Benz India has decided to offer the E-Class All Terrain with the less powerful 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel which is also found under the hood of the sedan, instead of the fire-breathing 3.0-litre V6 petrol which can also be found under its hood in other countries. This BSVI-compliant engine develops 194PS of maximum power and 400Nm of peak torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission it can accelerate from 0-100kmph in a respectable 8.0-seconds.
What makes the E-Class All Terrain is the way its estate body allows it to combine the luxury factor of its sedan counterpart with incomparable practicality and off-road ability. With all the rear seats up, the E-Class All Terrain has a luggage capacity from between 640-litres to 670-litres. The second-row can be folded in a 40:20:40 spit for added convenience, though dropping every one of them down gives the All Terrain an impressive 1820-litres of luggage space.
The Dynamic select all-terrain function uses the All Terrain’s air-suspension to raise the ride by up to a whopping 35mm for great off-road ability. The all-electronic AWD system allows the E-Class All Terrain to traverse conditions you would normally never take the E-Class sedan close to. It does all that with the same luxurious features as that of the sedan, including features such as 3-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, reclining second-row seats, panoramic sunroof and a 64-colour ambient lighting system.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain Specifications
Mercedes-Benz has launched the E-Class All-Terrain at Rs 75 lakh and you can read the whole report here.
The jacked-up version of the E-Class estate gets a two-fin front grille with a large three-pointed star tucked in the centre. Imbibing a rugged character to it are the all-around black plastic cladding. Inside, the distinct features that separate it from the regular E-Class comprise of aluminium-carbon parts, stainless steel pedals with rubber studs, and floor mats with “All-Terrain” engraving.
Powering the All Terrain is a 2.0-litre, inline-4 cylinder diesel engine which pumps out 194PS of max power and 400Nm of peak torque. Available in only a single all-wheel drive (AWD) variant, the pumped up E-Class is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The E-Class All Terrain competes with the Volvo V90 Cross Country.
