2018 Porsche Cayenne Engines: The Cayenne can be had with two different engines and three different powertrains. Where the standard Cayenne is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that produces 340PS and 450Nm, the Cayenne Turbo gets a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine that generates 550PS and 770Nm. Both the engines are mated to an 8-speed AT.

The standard Cayenne can go from 0-100kmph in 5.9 seconds, while the Turbo can do the same in just 3.9 seconds. As far as the top speed is concerned, the Cayenne tops out at 245kmph, while the Turbo is capable of hitting 286kmph.

The Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is powered by the same 3.0-litre petrol engine as the standard Cayenne but it is supplemented by 136PS electric motor, taking total power output to 462PS and 700Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid SUV can go from 0-100kmph in 5 seconds before achieving a top speed of 253kmph. 1. Porsche 718

Porsche made some radical changes to their entry-level mid-engined roadster and sports coupe with the new 718 series. Available as the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, the two are priced at Rs 89.95 lakh and Rs 85.95 lakh, respectively. Gone are the flat-six engines, replaced by modern 4-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol units. While the new engine offers impressive performance with 300PS of max power and 380Nm of peak torque, the lack of a sporty soundtrack from the turbo-charged four-pot was an issue raised by many. However, there were no complaints about how these new cars drove, with both Boxster and Cayman capable of a 0-100kmph time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 275kph, thanks to the 7-speed PDK gearbox that sends the power to the rear wheels. While other markets get the roadster and the coupe in a more powerful ‘S’ variant, they are yet to be launched in India.

Porsche has brought the 2020 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 to India priced at Rs 1.59 crore (Spyder) and Rs 1.63 crore (Cayman GT4) respectively. Both models are essentially harcore versions of the standard 718 Cayman and Boxter models already on sale in India.

At the heart of the matter for both 718 models is a 4.0-litre flat-six mill that delivers 420PS and 420Nm, paired to a traditional six-speed manual gearbox. 0-100kmph sprint times for both models stand at 4.4 seconds, with the Spyder topping out at 301kmph and the Cayman GT4 at 304kmph. Other performance enhancements include a 50 per cent increase in downforce for the Cayman GT4 thanks to a new rear wing and diffuser and a new moveale rear wing and diffuser for the Spyder.

  1. Porsche 911

Porsche has launched the latest iteration of the 911 today. The 2019 iteration comes in two variants – the Carrera S Coupe and the Carrera S Cabriolet. The 911 Carrera S Coupe is priced at Rs 1.82 crore whereas the Carrera S Cabriolet is priced at Rs 1.99 crore (both prices, ex-showroom pan India). The 0-100kmph sprint takes 3.7 seconds and the top speed stands at 308kmph. The 911 can also be optioned with the Sport Chrono package which shaves of 0.2 seconds off the 0-100kmph timing. Porsche has also not changed the 911’s looks and you still get the traditional 911 design. For 2019 though, the car has grown wider and longer than before. At the rear is where you can tell you’re following the 2019 model as you get new connected rear tail lamps. 7. Porsche Taycan – Upcoming

The Porsche Taycan is the company’s first electric car  has a clean, simple design and takes styling cues from the 918 and the 911 as well. The front end wears a minimal look, with the quad-LED headlamps, sculpted bonnet and muscular front bumper. The rear too looks very elegant with the very slim wraparound LED tail-lamp and muscular haunches. The only thing missing are the exhaust pipes! But then, it is fully electric! With a Cd value from 0.22, the aerodynamically optimised basic shape makes a significant contribution to low energy consumption resulting in a long range.

The Taycan gets some classic design features on the dashboard and that takes inspiration from the 911 of the 1963. The stated goal was to bring it into the present day. The cockpit signals the start of a new era with its clear structure and a completely new construction. It is clearly driver-focused. The instrument panel has a clean, minimalist and ultra-modern design, and operating the controls is quick and free from distractions. The cabin gets a total of four screens, with the highlight being the instrument cluster that is actually a curved 16.8-inch screen with the rounded look that’s typical of Porsche. No cowl means a slim and modern appearance mimicking the style of high-quality smartphones and tablets.

The new Porsche Taycan will sport two permanently excited synchronous electric motors that are capable of churning out max power of 600 bhp and will a range of over 500 km thanks to its high voltage lithium-ion batteries. The two permanently excited synchronous motors, like those deployed in the Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid, generate a permanent rotary motion that can be applied at any time without needing to be started. The Taycan, with its 800-volt chargers, can fast charge its electric motors within 15 minutes, with a 400 km range. It can go from 0-100 kmph in under 3.5 seconds and Porsche says that the Taycan is not just sporty, but also practical, and the figures do speak for themselves.
