- Yamaha MT 15

Yamaha has hiked prices for all its BS6 models. This includes the MT-15 which is now Rs 1,000 more expensive than before. Prices for the motorcycle now start at Rs 1,39,900 with the more premium looking Ice Fluo Vermilion colour scheme now costing Rs 1,40,900 (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).
The BS6-compliant iteration gets a standard radial rear tire and a side-stand engine cut-off feature for added safety. The bike retains the same underpinnings — telescopic front fork and a rear monoshock. Brakes have remained unchanged too, with the front end featuring a 282mm disc with single-channel ABS while the rear comes with a 220mm disc.
Yamaha MT 15 Specifications
On the Yamaha MT-15, the 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled 4-valve motor (which it shares with the R15 BS6) makes 18.6PS and 14.1Nm. Engine outputs compared to the BS4 version are lower — 0.7PS and 0.6Nm to be precise. While the engine tune of the MT-15 BS6 and the R15 BS6 remain the same, the shorter final drive ratio on the naked (thanks to a larger rear sprocket) makes the MT-15 BS6 quicker while commuting. Not only does the MT-15 BS6 share its engine with the R15 v3, but it also makes use of the same delta box frame, front conventional telescopic fork, and rear monoshock unit. However, the rear swingarm used on the MT-15 is a steel box-type and not an aluminium one like on the R15. Braking hardware remains the same with disc brakes at both ends. As part of the BS6 update, Yamaha is now offering a radial tyre on the rear wheel of the MT-15 BS6.
Yamaha MT 15 Features
While it always had LED DRLs, headlight and taillight, the tail light on the MT-15 BS6 has been slightly redesigned. You get the same full-digital dash that you find on the Yamaha R15 v3 BS6 but with a negative display. Sadly, it still gets single-channel ABS as standard; no signs of a dual-channel variant in the offing. Much like the R15 v3, the MT-15 BS6 also gets Variable Valve Actuation. The tech allows the 155cc engine to generate peak engine performance at higher revs without having to compensate for lack of low- to mid-range grunt.
Yamaha MT 15 Variants
The Yamaha MT 15 comes in a single variant with three colour options: black, blue and red. The white and red option, which was introduced with the BS6 update, costs Rs 1,000 more than the other two colours.

Powering the R15 v3 is the same 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled 4-valve motor with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). The power output of 18.6PS and 14.1Nm is 0.7PS and 0.6Nm less than its BS4 counterpart. But it continues to remain the most powerful 150cc motorcycle in India. You find the trademark Deltabox frame on the R15 v3 which had to be tweaked slightly for its third generation. The India-spec motorcycle employs 41mm conventional telescopic fork and an aluminium swingarm with a monoshock unit. Braking duties are taken care of by a 282mm disc with a twin-piston calliper on the front wheel while the rear wheel gets a single-piston calliper acting on a 220mm rear disc.

The Yamaha R15 features sleek twin LED headlights and an LED tail-light. It gets a fully digital dash with a plethora of information on offer like two trip meters, average fuel efficiency indicator, gear position indicator and a bar-type tachometer. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard. The R15 v3 also gets Variable Valve Actuation, which is Yamaha lingo for variable valve timing. Thanks to the presence of this tech, the R15 can eke out maximum top-end performance without sacrificing on low-end grunt. This tech is usually found on big capacity motorcycles, so kudos to Yamaha for kitting the small R15 with this feature.
Yamaha YZF R15 Variants
The Yamaha R15 V3 comes in 3 colour variants: grey (Rs 1,47,900), blue (Rs 1,49,000) and matte black (Rs 1,50,000). Yamaha hasn’t tinkered around with the styling of the new R15, and it remains the same sharp-looking motorcycle that it was since 2018. While the graphics on the grey and Dark Knight colours look similar to the BS4 bike, the Racing Blue gets refreshed graphics with a silver strip bearing the R15 logo plastered across the fairing.
